GEORGE BOROWSKI. Check Out Guitar George. Ozit CD219.

Not at all what I was expecting! Why, I dunno, but I was expecting an album full of widdly guitar solos wrapped in self indulgence. How wrong I was! For the first time in ages I must admit that the phrase 'one of the most gifted singer songwriters..' is actually somewhat near the truth. There's fifteen tracks, and I can honestly say that every one of the songs is pretty damn good. Almost all of them exhibit great melodies, superb hooklines, and you can well imagine the album being played to people, with the words, this is what songwriting's about. All the track are incredibly radio friendly, and sure, there's no experimental, cutting edge material here, but if you're looking for what I guess is pretty old fashioned now, proper songs with a beginning, middle, end, and a story to boot, then George's yer man. Lofgren, Taylor, and Jackson Browne come to mind, not in style, as such, but structure. Like I say, a surprising and likeable collection of songs.
